Mosaic Jumper
Project Images
Description
My first mosaic project. It took me longer to make because this one. I had different colour scheme at the start, but halfway to the yoke, the colours looked too “blended in” to me so I had to frog and rethink. I decided to use the Hogwarts house colours I was saving for a wrap. Since it was my first mosaic project, I struggled with frustration at the start. So I benched the project and did several other tops and cardi. When I went back to it, I was more determined and I started to enjoy doing it for some reason. I wore it on my first Knitting Stitching show here in Belfast and got lots of compliments.

Confetti Pullover
Project Images
Description
My first Nomad Stitches make. It gave me so much grief at the beginning. I did, as suggested on the sizing, a size5. Got as far as halfway down the sleeves and 3/4 down the body. That was after frogging half of the yoke x2 and the top of sleeves once. I finally got the sizing of the body just the way I wanted it by doing sc2tog as suggested. However, the yoke was wayyyy too big. I just decided to frog the whole thing and after contemplation and re-reading the pattern and writing on my notes, I decided to restart, size 4. I painstakingly countedthe stitch numbers for every row. I know, so tedious, but I was determined to make myself a Confetti DK pullover that fits me the way I want it to fit. Made bell sleeves, I saw Chandi made on so I tried it. And I loved it! I want to make a short sleeves someday. Pic 1, before blocking Pic 2, after blocking

My gauge = 14sts x 8r (DC), 6sts x 8r (V). Even though my gauge was different to the pattern, the measurements came out the same. I was expecting the garment to be more oversized than it is. I’m not sure why that happened, but perhaps it’s because my yarn is thicker even though it’s still classed as a DK? **Changes made to pattern:** - No split hem - No sleeve decreases - 3 extra chains at sleeve split - Used a combination of YOSLST and SLST for trims **About the pattern:** Another wonderfully designed garment. Sandra always provides ample notes and instructions throughout her patterns, and sometimes this can get a little overwhelming. You do need to read the whole pattern and I would suggest highlighting important notes. Due to this, I would recommend this pattern for the intermediate maker. **About the yarn:** This yarn is lovely and light, but still warm. I especially like the randomness of the colour changes. It is delicate and can get a little pilly, so needs to be looked after.

10-21-2023 =Very happy with overall completed project. This is the third nomad stitches design I have completed and it's definitely my favorite as far as final fit. PATTERN NOTES: I had the pattern professionally printed in color and spiral bound - having it in color definitely helps keep track of stitch counts for specific size you are making. Love the way yoke and sleeves- including sleeve caps - are constructed. Makes for a more custom fit Instruction are clear but you have to pay attention to info at beginning of sections - I frogged sleeves a couple times because I messed up the sleeve shaping section because I wasn't reading the pattern correctly. Reading return rows on charts from left to right took some getting used to. I penciled in arrows on my pattern to remind me which direction to go Before start increase sections - I Found it helpful to do math on rows and pencil in final stitch count beside rows in charts so I could check my work as I progressed VIDEO SUPPORT - Pattern includes links to several videos which are very beneficial Design is very customizable re length Can change up mosaic charts easily to choose which designs you like best PROJECT NOTES: Met gauge with recommended hook size Completed 11 rows for measurement of 3" instead of 2" suggested by pattern in "Rest of long sleeve" section on pg 20 Added hip shaping per pattern and made full length version. Not a fan of DC stitch so started sleeves using hdc instead. Ended up frogging and just following pattern as written. Ended up with 61 total rows on sleeves before edging. Am considering removing top button- feel it looks too high up on neck Meant to add mosaic pattern on sleeve but forgot so just changed color on edging row for some contrast.

started this project in February 2024- got all the way through the yoke to the split for the sleeves along with a considerable amount of the body... tried it on and the fit just wasn't right. I frogged all the way back to the ribbed neckline and started over- did a lot of research on how to measure MY body to know how deep to make a yoke that would work on me and then started over adjusting the pattern to my measurements. I love how fluffy this yarn is but it was a nightmare to frog. finally picked this back up and finished! final result is big squishy oversized sweater - just what I wanted. Every time I make a top down design I learn a little more :)

Making this to wear next winter but will also enter it in the 2024 show.
17 December: have completed up to chart 8. Will try on once that’s done and see if I want to make the cropped or hip length version.
My sister visited yesterday while I was working on this and commented that the colours seemed very 1950s so have renamed as the mid-century mosaic!
9 Dec: have a question about Chart 5B and have posted in the community for some help. Really enjoying the process.
Choosing colours based on what I have. Grey as the neutral with blue, burgundy, orange and green contrasts.
Watched Sandra’s video tutorial which was really helpful.

Used 4mm hook for the pattern as I liked the drape and feel of the 4mm swatch better than the 3.5mm swatch. Decreased the amount of rows and stitches as the 4mm swatch was too big.
Re-used yarn from a shrug I made years ago and never wore. Only had enough yarn for size 2, with a positive ease of 10cm. A slightly tighter fit than the pattern, but it looks good and feels even better!

I removed one section as I didn’t like the colour combo or how the pattern didn’t match on both sides - something to be mindful of if you make a size 5.

About the pattern:
The pattern is well written and laid out in a logical sequence. It has lots of info, including photos to guide you along. Highly recommended.
I would recommend this pattern for an advanced beginner to intermediate level crocheter.
About the yarn:
I’ve used this yarn in several projects and it is a firm favourite of mine. It can split, depending on hook size, so care is sometimes required.
NOTE:
My gauge was off by 1st/10cm, so this top is a little more oversized than it should be for the pattern.
The hem had a tendency to curl because of the slst’s. It required quite a severe blocking to flatten out. I would suggest using a larger hook than recommended or work your stitches very loose.
